Backflow Testing
Backflow prevention devices must be field tested at least once a year to ensure they are working properly. Backflow tests must be performed by a certified backflow tester who is approved by the water supplier. The test equipment is required to be calibrated and certified yearly. Certified Backflow Tester provides all this and makes it easy for you!
Backflow Repair
The backflow test tells us if the backflow assembly is operating properly. If it is not, there is a risk that reversal of water flow could endanger the public health. The backflow test doesn't tell us specifically the cause of the failure. To learn the cause (or causes) of the failure, we must disassemble the device and trouble-shoot. Sometimes the problems are obvious and sometimes they're not.

What is Backflow?
Backflow is the undesired reversal of water flow against the normal direction. This can occur through back pressure or back siphonage.
Back pressure
Occurs when pressure in a private water system is greater than pressure in the City’s water supply system.
Can result in water from the private system forcing its way into the City’s distribution system.
Can be caused by pumps, elevated tanks, temperature increases in boiler systems, and other local pressure events.
Back siphonage
Occurs when pressure in the City’s water supply system is lower than pressure in a private system.
Can pull contaminated water from the private water system into the City’s distribution system.
Can be caused by nearby fire-fighting or watermain breaks.
